Improving Global Decision-Making - Making The World A Better Place In 5 Steps
Posted on July 27th, 2010 in Politics | No Comments »
The world as it is has a lot of potential for improvement - many people feel frustrated that they have no power to change the way it is run. However, together we are all able to change the world - this article shows how we can make the world a better, fairer place in which to live.
Step 1: Establish A World Parliament
All levels of government have some kind of parliamentary system - except for the United Nations. The UN in its current form suffers from an acute democracy deficit in the Security Council, where the most important decisions are made. Therefore, we need a system which has democratic legitimacy and is peopled by representatives of the people of the world. This could be called the United Nations Parliamentary Assembly (UNPA).
Step 2: Nurturing a Public Mind Shift
There is currently a public mind shift which is taking place around the world and the formation of a UNPA could be part of this. Moreover, we need to enable more people to move to this higher level of understanding, so that they can view themselves as global citizens and not just as individuals or national citizens.
Step 3: Create a New Global Political Philosophy including Conflict Resolution
As a result of this changing mind shift, we can begin to create a new political philosophy for the world, which will be an evolution of the thinking from previous years.
Step 4: Developing Global Law
International law is breaking at the boundaries - we need global laws to replace it and to move beyond national sovereignty.
Step 5: A Transformed System of Global Governance
The result of following these steps will be that we can achieve a democratic system of global governance which provides representation for the people, by the people. This will mean that we can nurture a new generation of global leaders who are democratic, representing the voice of all the people of the world.
By following these steps, we could create a world where people have a true representative on a global level, which would certainly make the world a better place.
